With Sydney’s inclement weather HAC was called on at short notice to host the Third Division Major Semi Finals at the College Oval. After a successful season HAC had 1st, 2nd and 4th Grades competing with 3rd missing out by a small margin.
4th Grade got the day off to a tough start in a hard fought game against Beecroft. Both sides showed some determined defence with each side only managing to cross the try line once. At the end of the day the difference came down to the boot with Beecroft opting to take penalty kicks when HAC continued to press for the try. This saw a final result of Beecroft 11 defeated HAC 7. This will see HAC now taking on Old Ignations in the Preliminary Final.
2nd Grade was another hard fought match with neither team able to completely exert their dominance. HAC pressed hard throughout the game maintaining the lead for most of the match but unable to pull away from Beecroft. With minutes remaining HAC maintained a 3 point lead. After Beecroft bounced a penalty kick off the post it looked as if HAC would hold on for the win. But with the game well into extra time Beecroft was successful in one lat penalty attempt to draw the game 24 all. As Beecroft were the minor premiers they head through to the Grand Final with HAC now taking on Hawkesbury Valley in the Preliminary Final.
To conclude a tough day for HAC 1st Grade took on Beecroft in the Clark Cup Semi Final. In a low scoring and hard fought game HAC appeared dominant for most of the match however strong defence by Beecroft meant that HAC struggled to cross the line. Having built a lead early HAC were forced to dig deep when reduced to 14 men with more than 20 minutes remaining after a poorly executed tackle resulted in a red card for PJ. The boys were able to hang in for the win with the final score HAC 17 defeated Beecroft 15. This see’s 1st Grade through to the Clark Cup Grand Final for the second year in a row.
Everyone is encouraged to join us and show their support for 2nd and 4th as they play the Preliminary Finals at Granville Rugby Park on Saturday 13 August 2016.
Fight On, Fight On, Victory will Come.
